Presidential candidate Farid Zahran’s campaign announces abandonment of challenge to his election candidacy

The campaign said: “With regard to the filed appeal requesting the exclusion of candidate Farid Zahran from the lists of candidates for the 2024 presidential elections, we would like to report that the appellant appeared at the hearing today, 23/10/2023 before the First Circuit of the Supreme Administrative Court, and decided to abandon the appeal and leave the dispute there.”

The campaign explained that the court had decided “to accept the appellant’s waiver of his appeal and to abandon the dispute thereon, despite our recognition that the right to litigate is protected, sacred and guaranteed to all,” noting that this appeal, even if the appellant had not abandoned the dispute over it, would inevitably have been rejected for many legal reasons, including for example that it is devoid of any evidence, especially since the candidate had filed nomination papers with the National Electoral Authority, including his report on the criminal status, which was categorically and clearly devoid of any ruling or precedents, and furthermore did not accept his submission without having the capacity established by the judgments of the High Administrative Court in such appeals.

The campaign said that presidential candidate Farid Zahran and his election campaign reaffirm their full commitment to the cohesion and unity of the civil movement and the Egyptian opposition to build a modern bourgeois-democratic state based on pluralism and freedom of expression, thinking and opinion.
